Magnetic field mitigation at power frequency: Design principles and case studies

2014 IEEE Industry Application Society Annual Meeting, 2014
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the main techniques for magnetic field mitigation at power frequency and assess their effectiveness presenting two real applications used as case studies. Some mitigation techniques presented in the literature are reviewed and discussed.

External power frequency magnetic field-induced jitter on computer monitors

open access: yesBehaviour & Information Technology, 1993
Power frequency magnetic fields with flux densities greater than 0.5 μT are not uncommon in offices. This level has been shown to induce jitter on VDT monitors.

Measurements of power frequency magnetic fields away from power lines

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1991
Recent epidemiological studies have focused attention on the measurement of ambient-level power frequency magnetic fields in residential and industrial settings. Because the existing IEEE standard for characterizing power frequency magnetic fields is intended for measurements near power lines, it have a number of residential fields.

Construction of a Generator for Power Frequency Magnetic Field Immunity Test

2023 33rd International Conference Radioelektronika (RADIOELEKTRONIKA), 2023
The power frequency magnetic field immunity test is a common test applied to a large variety of devices that must be checked for electromagnetic compatibility. Implementing this test is not difficult since it involves working with frequencies at which the generated magnetic field can be considered quasi-stationary.

Environmental Power-frequency Magnetic Fields and Suicide

Health Physics, 1981
AbstractWe studied the relationship between power-frequency magnetic fields and locations of suicidal deaths in 1969–76 in the West Midlands, England. We found a significant correlation between suicide locations and the measured power-frequency magnetic field strength.

Power-frequency magnetic fields from electric blankets

Images of the Twenty-First Century. Proceedings of the Annual International Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1990
Power-frequency (50/60 Hz) magnetic fields produced by electric blankets are estimated from data on blanket design using a three-dimensional computer model. Maximum, minimum, and volume-average fields within human forms are presented as a function of blanket type and a number of geometric factors including body size, body-blanket separation, and ...

Power frequency magnetic fields in the home

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1989
The methodology and findings of a domestic magnetic field measurement program are presented. The purpose was to improve understanding of power-frequency magnetic fields in typical domestic locations for exposure assessment applications. Spot measurements were made at ninety-one sites in six states.

Pacemaker interference by magnetic fields at power line frequencies

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 2002
Human exposure to external 50/60-Hz electric and magnetic fields induces electric fields within the body. These induced fields can cause interference with implanted pacemakers. In the case of exposure to magnetic fields, the pacemaker leads are subject to induced electromotive forces, with current return paths being provided by the conducting body ...

Power frequency magnetic field and illness in multistorey blocks

Public Health, 1988
A survey was made to determine whether susceptibility to illness of people living in multistorey blocks in Wolverhampton was related to their situation within the block relative to that of the main electrical supply cable. It was found that significantly more people suffering from some types of heart disease ( P = 0.056) and from depressive illness ...

Exposures to power-frequency magnetic fields in the home

Journal of Radiological Protection, 1994
Power-frequency magnetic fields in homes come from a variety of sources, internal (appliances and domestic wiring) and external (electricity distribution and transmission circuits). The authors present results from a survey of the fields encountered at home by 258 adults over one week each.
