Microwave Modulator Requiring Minimum Modulation Power

IRE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1962
A microwave modulator was devised which requires a minimum of modulation power and which has very high modulation efficiency. The modulator functions as a switch, which opens and closes a transmission line proportional to a time function which represents information in digital form. The modulator is a varactor diode operating in the reverse bias region.

Power fast modulator thyristors

Proceedings of 1996 International Power Modulator Symposium, 2002
Fast power silicon thyristors are very promising for power modulators, but they have some drawbacks preventing their wide use. The main drawbacks are: instability of uniform current distribution which could lead to current localization (filamentation of current) and to burnout of the device under high currents; turn on time depends on the thickness of ...

Ultralow Power Silicon Modulators

Advanced Photonics for Communications, 2014
We discuss recent results in low-energy (0.9fJ/bit) high-speed (25Gb/s) electro-optically stabilized microdisk modulators. The combined results of highly efficient modulation and electro-optic thermal compensation represent a major step towards single-digit femtojoule-class communications.

Reconfigurable pulse power modules

2011 IEEE Pulsed Power Conference, 2011
Future combat vehicles will employ a wide variety of electric weapons, including lasers, rail guns, high power microwave sources and radar systems. Unfortunately, with current technology, each system requires its own unique pulse power source, which are typically large, inefficient and expensive.

Power module control design

IAS '95. Conference Record of the 1995 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirtieth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
The control and interface circuits for power transistor modules that are used in 50 to 100 kW motor drives are difficult to design because of the 400 to 600A currents, 400V operating levels, and fast switching times. Each of the power module control design functions is examined, as well as futuristic semiconductor devices that will simplify the control

Angle-Modulation Power Spectra

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1970
Exact expressions are obtained for the autocorrelation function of a sinusoidal carrier phase- or frequency-modulated by Butterworth-filtered white Gaussian noise. The corresponding power spectra are obtained numerically, together with bounds on the error resulting from truncation of the Fourier integrals.

Modulation Products in a Power Law Modulator

Proceedings of the IRE, 1933
Expansion of the current as a function of the voltage in a multiple Fourier series is used to solve the problem of determining the amplitude of the various frequency components produced when a voltage is applied across a resistance, the current in which varies as a power of the voltage across it.

Modeling Power Modulation

2016
With the recent power shortage in the USA, aluminum smelters are getting strong incentive to reduce their power consumption during peak demand. This power modulation can be quite harmful to the cells if not done properly. Yet, some smelters in Brazil [1,2] are now successfully managing power modulation on a routinely basis following a long and ...

Next generation power module

Proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and Ics, 2002
A brief history of power semiconductors, starting from its bipolar based origin to the state-of-art Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs), has been briefly reviewed at first, and is followed by an analysis of the changing requirements from the application fields. In accordance with it, next generation IPMs with new concepts have been proposed.

Photovoltaically powered modulating retroreflectors

Optical Engineering, 2006
The development of a photovoltaically (PV) powered laser communication system that constitutes a miniature, highly energy-efficient wireless communication technology is described. The technology is based on the direct integration of a multiquantum well (MQW) modulating retroreflector (MRR) optical communication node and a monolithically integrated ...
