DNA-Packing Portal and Capsid-Associated Tegument Complexes in the Tumor Herpesvirus KSHV. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Assembly of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) begins at a bacteriophage-like portal complex that nucleates formation of an icosahedral capsid with capsid-associated tegument complexes (CATCs) and facilitates translocation of an ∼150-kb dsDNA

Memory inflation: Beyond the acute phase of viral infection

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 57, Issue 12, December 2024.
This review highlights the definition of virus‐induced CD8+ T cell memory inflation,as well as the impacts on multi‐diseases progression. By summarizing current understandings, an opportunity is provided for shedding a light on the long‐term influences of memory inflation in host‐immune homeostasis thus beyond the acute phase of infection.

Antibody responses to common viruses according to COVID‐19 severity and postacute sequelae of COVID‐19

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 96, Issue 9, September 2024.
Abstract Limited research suggests that certain viruses reactivate in severe‐acute‐respiratory‐syndrome‐coronavirus 2 infection, contributing to the development of postacute sequelae of COVID‐19 (PASC). We examined 1083 infected individuals from a population‐based cohort, and assessed differences in plasma immunoglobulin (Ig)G and immunoglobulin A ...

Interactions between High Seroreactivity to Human Herpes Virus 6A and Epstein–Barr Virus in MS Development: A Presymptomatic Case–Control Study

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 96, Issue 2, Page 302-305, August 2024.
Synergistic interactions between human herpesvirus 6A (HHV‐6A) and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) are hypothesized in the etiopathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). This study investigated if HHV‐6A and EBV seroreactivities interact regarding the risk of developing MS.

Engineered HCMV‐infected APCs enable the identification of new immunodominant HLA‐restricted epitopes of anti‐HCMV T‐cell immunity

open access: yesHLA, Volume 103, Issue 6, June 2024.
Complications due to HCMV infection or reactivation remain a challenging clinical problem in immunocompromised patients, mainly due to insufficient or absent T‐cell functionality. Knowledge of viral targets is crucial to improve monitoring of high‐risk patients and optimise antiviral T‐cell therapy.

Red Yeast Rice and Optimal Fermentation Periods Improve the Quality of Esan Fermented Fish Sausage

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Esan fermented fish sausage (EFFS) has an unappealing off‐white color. The incorporation of an appropriate amount of red yeast rice (RYR) and the selection of an optimal fermentation period may yield visually appealing, high‐quality sausages. This study is aimed at investigating the effects of different RYR levels (0, 0.35, and 0.7%) and fermentation ...

The Two Major Structural Phosphoproteins (pp65 and pp150) of Human Cytomegalovirus and Their Antigenic Properties

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1987
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) purified from cell culture contains two dominant structural phosphoproteins with apparent molecular weights of 65,000 and 150,000, designated as pp65 and pp150 respectively. The humoral immune response of infected individuals against pp65 is relatively weak and is not always detectable by Western blot analyses.

Is Combined Pretransplantation Seropositivity of Kidney Transplant Recipients for Cytomegalovirus Antigens (pp150 and pp28) a Predictor for Protection against Infection? [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Principles and Practice, 2008
Objective: This study was aimed at detecting antibodies to the antigens which may contribute to protection against cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection after organ transplantation. Materials and Methods: A total of 203 kidney transplant patients were enrolled in the study.
