The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Pre-main sequence multiple systems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2010
AbstractIt is now well established that the majority of young stars are found in multiple systems, so that any theory of stellar formation must account for their existence and properties. Studying the properties of multiple star systems therefore represents a very powerful approach to place observational constraints on star formation theories ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Spectral Biases, Starspot Morphology, and Dynamo Transitions on the Pre-main Sequence: Insights from the X-Shooter WTTS Library

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Starspots are ubiquitous in young, low-mass stars, yet their impact on the spectral classification and fundamental parameter inference of pre-main-sequence stars (PMS) has been largely overlooked.

Molecular Mapping of DR Tau’s Protoplanetary Disk, Envelope, Outflow, and Large-scale Spiral Arm

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
DR Tau has been noted for its unusually high variability in comparison with other T Tauri stars. Although it is one of the most extensively studied pre-main-sequence stars, observations with millimeter interferometry have so far been relatively limited ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Spectral Variability of Herbig Ae Star V1295, Aquila

open access: yesGalaxies
This article presents the results of long-term spectral studies of the unusual Herbig Ae star V1295 Aql. The variability in the spectrophotometric parameters of the emission and absorption components of the hydrogen lines Hα, Hβ, and D Na I—and of ...

A Low-mass, Pre-main-sequence Eclipsing Binary in the 40 Myr Columba Association—Fundamental Stellar Parameters and Modeling the Effect of Star Spots

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
Young eclipsing binaries (EBs) are powerful probes of early stellar evolution. Current models are unable to simultaneously reproduce the measured and derived properties that are accessible for EB systems (e.g., mass, radius, temperature, and luminosity).
