TFAM‐Mediated mtDNA Replication is Essential for Developmental Competence of In Vitro Grown Oocytes

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, Volume 25, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose Mitochondria are essential for oocyte maturation and early embryonic development, supplying ATP and maintaining mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) integrity. During oogenesis, mtDNA undergoes dramatic amplification, but the mechanisms and functional significance of this process remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the role

Follicular Atresia, Cell Proliferation, and Anti-Mullerian Hormone in Two Neotropical Primates (Aotus nancymae and Sapajus macrocephalus)

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
This study evaluated the follicular atresia, cell proliferation, and anti-Mullerian hormone action in Aotus nancymae and Sapajus macrocephalus during three sexual phases (follicular, luteal, and gestational).

The Regulation of Apoptosis in Preantral Ovarian Follicles

open access: yesNeurosignals, 2000
Less than 1% of ovarian follicles ever mature to ovulation. The remainder undergo atretic degeneration via apoptosis during development. Though the regulation of antral and preovulatory survival has been studied for many years, very little is known about the regulation of survival and development of preantral follicles.

The Role of Anethole in Reproductive Physiology and In Vitro Biotechnologies—A Review

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, Volume 61, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT In vitro reproductive biotechnologies show promise for fertility preservation but still face challenges, including oxidative stress from high oxygen tension, which impairs cell viability and development. Antioxidants have been widely explored to attenuate oxidative stress during culture.

The role of glucocorticoids in ovarian development of sleep deprived rats

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2019
Objective: Sleep deprivation (SD) adversely affects female reproductive function. In this study, we investigated the role of glucocorticoids in ovarian development in sleep deprived rats.

Cytomolecular and In Vitro Toxicity Studies on Bisphenol A Effect on Ovine Granulosa Cells

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Bisphenol A (BPA), an organic environment chemical, has extensive presence in consumer goods and food/feed items. The present study aimed to explore how BPA influenced the viability, proliferation, apoptosis, and steroidogenic activity of ovine ovarian granulosa cells (GCs).

In Vitro Gamete Production in Mammals: Decades of Pioneering Approaches in Germ Cell and Stem Cell Biology Supporting Innovative Discovery and Expansion of Human Reproductive Potential

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 92, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT During recent decades a myriad of approaches have emerged for generating surrogate gametes or achieving in vitro gametogenesis (IVG). The most recent approaches to IVG include the development of increasingly complex culture systems, use of companion cells combined with germ line cells in two‐ or three‐dimensional configurations, derivation of ...

The Critical Role of Enhanced OXPHOS and Mitochondrial Hyperpolarization in Simulated Microgravity‐Induced Oocyte Maturation Arrest

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 38, October 13, 2025.
Simulated microgravity induces distinct mitochondrial hyperactivation patterns‐elevated OXPHOS and MMP‐which accelerate meiosis without SAC failure but delays MTOC coalescence, leading to spindle defects and meiotic arrest. Prolonging M‐phase restores MTOC assembly and oocyte maturation.

Biology and Biotechnology of Follicle Development

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2012
Growth and development of ovarian follicles require a series of coordinated events that induce morphological and functional changes within the follicle, leading to cell differentiation and oocyte development.

Morphometry and immunohistochemistry of follicles growth and steroidogenesis in saharian wild sand rat, Psammomys obesus, ovary.

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2010
The sand rat (Psammomys obesus) constitutes a model to study seasonal changes and several metabolic disorders. In order to perform breeding laboratory conditions, the reproductive function of this species living in North Occidental Algerian Sahara was ...
