DNA Renaturation at the Water-Phenol Interface [PDF]
We study DNA adsorption and renaturation in a water-phenol two-phase system, with or without shaking. In very dilute solutions, single-stranded DNA is adsorbed at the interface in a salt-dependent manner.

Prebiotic Competition between Information Variants, With Low Error Catastrophe Risks
During competition for resources in primitive networks increased fitness of an information variant does not necessarily equate with successful elimination of its competitors.

Lipid-Assisted Polymerization of Nucleotides
In addition to being one of the proponents of the “Lipid World hypothesis”, David Deamer, together with other colleagues, pioneered studies involving formation of RNA-like oligomers from their ‘non-activated’, prebiotically ...

Twenty years of "Lipid World": a fertile partnership with David Deamer [PDF]
"The Lipid World" was published in 2001, stemming from a highly effective collaboration with David Deamer during a sabbatical year 20 years ago at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

Nitrogen Oxide Concentrations in Natural Waters on Early Earth
A key challenge in origins-of-life studies is estimating the abundances of species relevant to the chemical pathways proposed to have contributed to the emergence of life on early Earth.

On the Theory of Evolution Versus the Concept of Evolution: Three Observations [PDF]
Here we address three misconceptions stated by Rice et al. in their observations of our article Paz-y-Miño and Espinosa (Evo Edu Outreach 2:655–675, 2009), published in this journal.

Organic Molecules in the Icy Bodies of Planetary Systems – Accepted Notions and New Ideas
Cometary bodies are acknowledged to contain some of the most pristine matter in the Solar System, including ices and minerals. Certain number of previously unidentified spectral emission features detected in comets can be explained as emission by ...

The origin of life: chemical evolution of a metabolic system in a mineral honeycomb? [PDF]
For the RNA-world hypothesis to be ecologically feasible, selection mechanisms acting on replicator communities need to be invoked and the corresponding scenarios of molecular evolution specified.

Chemical Diversity of Metal Sulfide Minerals and Its Implications for the Origin of Life
Prebiotic organic synthesis catalyzed by Earth-abundant metal sulfides is a key process for understanding the evolution of biochemistry from inorganic molecules, yet the catalytic functions of sulfides have remained poorly explored in the context of the ...
