Drivers of a Summertime Combined High Air Pollution Event of Ozone and PM2.5 in Taiyuan, China

open access: yesAtmosphere
Combined air pollution of ozone and PM2.5 often occurs in coal-based cities of China such as Taiyuan City. In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting/Chemistry (WRF-Chem) model was employed to simulate a combined high air pollution event of ...

Continuous Monitoring of Differential Reflectivity Bias for C-Band Polarimetric Radar Using Online Solar Echoes in Volume Scans

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
The measurement error of differential reflectivity (ZDR), especially systematic ZDR bias, is a fundamental issue for the application of polarimetric radar data. Several calibration methods have been proposed and applied to correct ZDR bias.

Moisture sources tracking of a cold vortex rainstorm over Northeast China using FLEXPART

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters, 2022
Water vapor sources and related transport processes are fundamental to the understanding of precipitation mechanisms. This study focuses on a typical Northeast Cold Vortex (NECV) rainstorm on July 25, 2016, which brought floods and huge economic losses ...

Study on the Vertical Structure and the Evolution of Precipitation Particle Spectrum Parameters of Stratocumulus Clouds over North China Based on Aircraft Observation

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
The understanding of the macro- and micro-structure, particle spectrum parameters, and their evolutions in different parts of stratocumulus clouds based on aircraft observation data, is important basic data for the development of cloud microphysical ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Estimation of missing precipitation records using modular artificial neural networks

open access: yes, 2012
Estimation of missing precipitation records is one of the important tasks in hydrological study. The completeness of precipitation data leads to more accurate results from the hydrological models.

Energetic electron precipitation during substorm injection events: High-latitude fluxes and an unexpected midlatitude signature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Geosynchronous Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL-97A) satellite particle data, riometer data, and radio wave data recorded at high geomagnetic latitudes in the region south of Australia and New Zealand are used to perform the first complete modeling ...

Role of Hydrodynamics, Li+ Addition and Transformation Kinetics on the Formation of Plate-Like {001} Calcite Crystals

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Plate-like calcite crystals with expressed unstable {001} planes are interesting research model for investigations of interfacial interactions of different additive molecules, but also the crystal growth mechanisms.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Representing uncertainty in continental-scale gridded precipitation fields for agrometeorological modeling

open access: yes, 2008
This work proposes a relatively simple methodology for creating ensembles of precipitation inputs that are consistent with the spatial and temporal scale necessary for regional crop modeling.
