Microbiome Dynamics Associated With the Atacama Flowering Desert

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
In a desert, plants as holobionts quickly respond to resource pulses like precipitation. However, little is known on how environment and plants modulate the rhizosphere-associated microbiome.

Pulse Effect of Precipitation: Spatial Patterns and Mechanisms of Soil Carbon Emissions

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2021
The rapid and strong release of CO2 caused by precipitation (known as the pulse effect) is a common phenomenon that significantly affects ecosystem C cycling. However, the degree to which the pulse effect occurs overlarge regional scales remains unclear.

Different sensitivity and threshold in response to nitrogen addition in four alpine grasslands along a precipitation transect on the Northern Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
The increase in atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition has resulted in some terrestrial ecological changes. In order to identify the response of sensitive indicators to N input and estimate the sensitivity and saturation thresholds in alpine grasslands, we ...

Land cover effects on hydrologic services under a precipitation gradient [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2018
Abstract. Climate change impacts on the hydrological cycle are altering the quantity, quality, and temporal distribution of riverine discharge, necessitating a more rigorous consideration of changes in land cover and land use. This study establishes relationships between different land cover combinations (e.g.

Representative Precipitation Measurement Using the Pressure Gradient

open access: yesJOURNAL OF JAPAN SOCIETY OF HYDROLOGY & WATER RESOURCES, 2004

Biogeography of soil archaea and bacteria along a steep precipitation gradient [PDF]

open access: yesThe ISME Journal, 2009
Abstract For centuries, biodiversity has spellbound biologists focusing mainly on macroorganism's diversity and almost neglecting the geographic mediated dynamics of microbial communities. We surveyed the diversity of soil bacteria and archaea along a steep precipitation gradient ranging from the Negev Desert in the south of Israel ...

Comparison of the root–soil water relationship of two typical revegetation species along a precipitation gradient on the Loess Plateau

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2021
Soil water and root distribution following revegetation are key research topics in water-limited ecosystems. However, little is known about the interaction between soil water and root distribution in deep soils under different precipitation conditions ...

Inter- and intra-population variability in physical dormancy along a precipitation gradient

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica
Physical dormancy enables plants that occur in temporally stochastic and harsh environments to survive; thus, within the distribution area of a species, the percentage of seeds with physical dormancy is expected to increase towards more arid and ...

Comparative Analysis of the Gradient of Meteorological Elements at Different Elevations of the North Slope of the Middle Kunlun Mountains from 2022 to 2023

open access: yesGaoyuan qixiang
The north slope of the Middle Kunlun Mountains contains different sub-surfaces such as oases, deserts and their transition zones, as well as deserts and plateau climates, with great ecological differences and climate variations from north to south ...

Nitrogen economy of alpine plants on the north Tibetan Plateau: Nitrogen conservation by resorption rather than open sources through biological symbiotic fixation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
Nitrogen (N) is one of the most important factors limiting plant productivity, and N fixation by legume species is an important source of N input into ecosystems.
