Key photoprotective pathways of a shade-tolerant plant (Alpinia oxyphylla) for precipitation patterns change during the dry season: thermal energy dissipation and water-water cycle

open access: yesPlant Stress, 2021
Alpinia oxyphylla Miq is a shade-tolerant plant that grows under rubber trees. The decreased precipitation often leads to limitation of photosynthesis and productivity of A. oxyphylla during the dry season.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Competitive mechanisms occurring during quenching and partitioning of three silicon variants of 0.4 wt.% carbon steels

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
Quenching and partitioning (Q&P) treated steels are traditionally alloyed with silicon (Si), but its precise role on microstructural mechanisms occurring during partitioning is not thoroughly understood.

Partitioning the contributions of glacier melt and precipitation to the 1971–2010 runoff increases in a headwater basin of the Tarim River

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology, 2020
Glacier retreat and runoff increases in the last few decades characterize conditions in the Kumalak River Basin, which is a headwater basin of the Tarim River with a catchment area of 12,800 km2. To address the scientific question of whether, and to what

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Mechanisms for suppressing discontinuous precipitation and improving mechanical properties of NiAl-strengthened steels through nanoscale Cu partitioning

open access: yes, 2020
Control of discontinuous and continuous precipitation is crucial for tailoring the microstructure and mechanical properties of NiAl-strengthened steels.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Effects of Si addition on microstructure and properties of martensitic stainless steel treated by quenching and partitioning process

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2021
In order to improve the strength-plasticity and corrosion resistance, two nitrogen-alloyed martensitic stainless steels 10Cr13N and 10Cr13Si2N with different Si contents were designed and fabricated.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...
