Adjuvant therapeutic potential of tonabersat in the standard treatment of glioblastoma : a preclinical F98 glioblastoma rat model study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose Even with an optimal treatment protocol, the median survival of glioblastoma (GB) patients is only 12-15 months. Hence, there is need for novel effective therapies that improve survival outcomes.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Preclinical translation of exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem/stromal cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Exosomes are nanovesicles secreted by virtually all cells. Exosomes mediate the horizontal transfer of various macromolecules previously believed to be cell-autonomous in nature, including nonsecretory proteins, various classes of RNA, metabolites, and ...

A dirofilariasis mouse model for heartworm preclinical research

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
ABSTRACTUse of experimental cats and dogs in veterinary heartworm preclinical drug research is increasing. As a potential alternative primaryin vivoheartworm preventative drug screen, we assessed lymphopenic mice with ablation of the interleukin-2/7 common gamma chain (γc) as susceptible to the larval development phase ofD. immitis. Non-obese diabetic (

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.
