Using Performance Profiles to Evaluate Preconditioners for Iterative Methods

2006
We evaluate performance profiles as a method for comparing preconditioners for iterative solvers by using them to address three questions that have previously been asked about incomplete LU preconditioners. For example, we use performance profiles to quantify the observation that if a system can be solved by a preconditioned iterative solver, then that

Iterative Method with the Preconditioner (I + Smax) for H‐Matrices

PAMM, 2003
AbstractIn 2002 Kotakemori et al. have reported the Modified Gauss‐Seidel method with a preconditioner (I + Smax). The convergence of the new method they investigated only for Z‐matrices, for which the new method can be superior to other iterative methods. But, in the case of H‐matrices this method can be superior to the others, too.

Assessment of Preconditioner for a USM3D Hierarchical Adaptive Nonlinear Iteration Method (HANIM) (Invited)

54th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2016
Enhancements to the previously reported mixed-element USM3D Hierarchical Adaptive Nonlinear Iteration Method (HANIM) framework have been made to further improve robustness, efficiency, and accuracy of computational fluid dynamic simulations. The key enhancements include a multi-color line-implicit preconditioner, a discretely consistent symmetry ...

Incomplete Block Cyclic Reduction as a Preconditioner for Polynomial Iterative Methods

SIAM Journal on Scientific and Statistical Computing, 1990
Preconditionings based on incomplete block odd-even cyclic reduction for the Chebyshev and conjugate gradient polynomial iterative methods have been shown to be effective for accelerating the convergence of the solution of linear systems that arise from discrete approximations of elliptic partial differential equations.

Iterative methods for solving sparse linear systems with a parallel preconditioner

International Journal of Computer Mathematics, 1992
The incomplete LU factorization is one of the more effective preconditioner of the conjugate gradient-type methods in connection with the solution of large, sparse systems of linear equations. In this paper, the results obtained with the use of the level scheduling method are shown.

Structured preconditioners for matrix-free iterative methods

2013

Physics‐based preconditioner for iterative algorithms in multi‐scatterer and multi‐boundary method of moments formulations

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2002
AbstractAn efficient method to solve electromagnetic scattering problems involving several metallic scatterers or bodies composed of dielectric and metallic regions is proposed. So far, the method of moments has successfully been applied to large arrays of identical scatterers when it was combined with preconditioned iterative algorithms to solve for ...
