The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Carbonitriding reactions of diatomaceous earth: phase evolution and reaction mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2006
The possibility of using diatomaceous earth as Si precursor for low temperature synthesis of non-oxide powders by carbothermal reduction-nitridation was studied. It was found that carbonitriding reactions produce phases of the Si–Al–O–N system.

Precursors and Antecedents of the Anthropocene

open access: yesSocial Sciences, 2022
There seem to be two sorts of debates about precursors and antecedents to the Anthropocene. One concerns the question whether the concept of the Anthropocene was captured by earlier terms, such as “noösphere” or “the Anthropozoic Era”. The other concerns

Elemental composition and oxidation of chamber organic aerosol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Recently, graphical representations of aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) spectra and elemental composition have been developed to explain the oxidative and aging processes of secondary organic aerosol (SOA).

Precursors to Cholangiocarcinoma

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2019
Cancers of the biliary tract include intra- and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas and gallbladder cancer. Biliary tract cancers are diseases with unfavorable prognoses. In recent years, several lesions have been described as precursors that precede biliary cancers.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Enhanced AmB Production in Streptomyces nodosus by Fermentation Regulation and Rational Combined Feeding Strategy

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Amphotericin B is a clinically important polyene macrolide antibiotic with a broad-spectrum antifungal activity. In this work, the addition of key precursors and differential metabolites, combined with staged fermentation process control strategies, was ...

Zn2+ induces changes in activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes and emissions of floral volatiles in Dendrobium huoshanense

open access: yesFolia Horticulturae, 2022
In recent years, there has been increasing interest in floral volatiles due to their important function in reproduction, self-protection and so on. Although some progress was made on deciphering emissions of floral volatiles and on related mechanisms ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
