Improved health‐related quality of life with tirzepatide versus semaglutide in adults with obesity or overweight from the SURMOUNT‐5 trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 452-462, January 2026.
Abstract Aims In SURMOUNT‐5, tirzepatide led to greater body weight (BW) reduction versus semaglutide in adults with obesity without T2D. Health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) with tirzepatide versus semaglutide in SURMOUNT‐5 was evaluated. Materials and Methods This analysis included on‐treatment data from participants who received ≥1 dose of ...

Progressive increases in adiposity and ectopic fat surrogates across glycaemic states highlight weight reduction as a key target for type 2 diabetes prevention, especially in younger people

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 654-662, January 2026.
Abstract Aims To determine whether there are progressive changes in weight and ectopic fat surrogates in individuals comparing normoglycaemia, prediabetes and undiagnosed type 2 diabetes, and whether these increments differ by age. Materials and Methods Cross‐sectional analysis of UK Biobank White participants without baseline cardiovascular disease or

Lipidomic profiling unveils sex differences in diabetes risk: Implications for precision medicine

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study uncovered sex‐specific metabolic and lipidomic signatures of prediabetes. In PREVADIAB2 (n = 953), clustering by insulin traits revealed four phenotypes. Lipidomics showed women enriched in dihydroceramides and sphingomyelins, while men displayed a higher ceramide/sphingomyelin ratio. These sex‐metabolic phenotypes expose distinct lipidomes,

Amyloid‐beta (1–40) peptide is associated with systemic metabolic health

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 1, January 2026.
Plasma amyloid‐beta 1–40 (Aβ40) levels were measured in 449 individuals without overt cardiovascular disease. Higher Aβ40 was independently associated with metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia (low HDL‐C, high triglycerides), insulin resistance (TyG index), diabetes mellitus and increased BARD score indicating liver fibrosis risk.

BMI Percentile Cutoffs for Overweight and Obesity Are Set Too High in Terms of Adiposity and Metabolic Markers for Asian Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Obesity, Volume 21, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Asian adults develop metabolic complications at lower body mass indices (BMIs) compared with other ethnic groups, leading to lower BMI cutoffs for overweight and obesity. However, it remains unclear whether such adjustments are warranted in Asian children and adolescents.
