Comparative Analysis of Cataract Refractive Outcomes Based on Varied Axial Length and Keratometry Measurements from Diverse Diagnostic Devices

open access: yesPhilippine Journal of Ophthalmology
Objective: To compare the refractive absolute error when axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and keratometry (K) are sourced from different measuring devices (IOL Master vs a combination of automated keratometer and A-scan) and inputted into ...

Accuracy of new and standard intraocular lens power calculations formulae in Saudi pediatric patients

open access: yesTaiwan Journal of Ophthalmology, 2019
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to compare the accuracy of new generation formulas to standard formulas for intraocular lens (IOL) power calculations in pediatric patients.

Reward Prediction Error Signals are Meta‐Representational [PDF]

open access: yesNoûs, 2012
It is often thought that metarepresentation is a particularly sophisticated cognitive achievement. There is substantial evidence that dolphins and some primates can represent some of their own psychological states, but the existence of ‘metacognition’ in any other species remains highly controversial (Carruthers 2009; Hampton 2009; Smith 2009 ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

The Implementation of Predictions During Sequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2019
Optimal control mechanisms require prediction capabilities. If one cannot predict the consequences of a motor act or behavior, one will continually collide with walls or become a social pariah.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Exponential Smoothing: A Prediction Error Decomposition Principle [PDF]

open access: yes
In the exponential smoothing approach to forecasting, restrictions are often imposed on the smoothing parameters which ensure that certain components are exponentially weighted averages.

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Development, Insults and Predisposing Factors of the Brain’s Predictive Coding System to Chronic Perceptual Disorders—A Life-Course Examination

open access: yesBrain Sciences
The predictive coding theory is currently widely accepted as the theoretical basis of perception and chronic perceptual disorders are explained as the maladaptive compensation of the brain to a prediction error. Although this gives us a general framework

Prediction in measurement error models

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Statistics
We study the well known difficult problem of prediction in measurement error models. By targeting directly at the prediction interval instead of the point prediction, we construct a prediction interval by providing estimators of both the center and the length of the interval which achieves a pre-determined prediction level.
