Synthesizing benchmarks for predictive modeling [PDF]

open access: yes2017 IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Code Generation and Optimization (CGO), 2017
Predictive modeling using machine learning is an effective method for building compiler heuristics, but there is a shortage of benchmarks. Typical machine learning experiments outside of the compilation field train over thousands or millions of examples.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Reliability prediction in model driven development

open access: yes, 2005
Evaluating the implications of an architecture design early in the software development lifecycle is important in order to reduce costs of development.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effective workflow from multi-modal MRI data to model-based prediction

open access: yes
Predicting human behavior from neuroimaging data remains a complex challenge in neuroscience. To address this, we propose a systematic and multi-faceted framework that incorporates a model-based workflow using dynamical brain models.

Predictive Model Selection

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1995
SUMMARY We consider the problem of selecting one model from a large class of plausible models. A predictive Bayesian viewpoint is advocated to avoid the specification of prior probabilities for the candidate models and the detailed interpretation of the parameters in each model.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Deep prediction model: The case of online adaptive prediction of subcutaneous glucose

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we propose the concept of the deep prediction model for subcutaneous glucose concentration. The concept is based on several layers of prediction models.

Methodological standards for the development and evaluation of clinical prediction rules: a review of the literature

open access: yesDiagnostic and Prognostic Research, 2019
Clinical prediction rules (CPRs) that predict the absolute risk of a clinical condition or future outcome for individual patients are abundant in the medical literature; however, systematic reviews have demonstrated shortcomings in the methodological ...
