In this work a new method for designing predictive controllers for linear single-input/single-output systems is presented. It uses only one prediction of the process output J time intervals ahead to compute the correspondent future error. Then, the predictive feedback controller is defined by introducing a filter which weights the last w predicted ...

A DISCRETE PREDICTING CONTROLLER
British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, 1967This paper describes an attempt to develop a control device which has some of the characteristics of human processing rather than of the lead‐lag formulations of control theory. The controller's sensory limitations, the way in which it internally represents the behaviour of the system under control, and its control strategy, are described.

Predictive Control for Industrial Applications
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000Abstract An overview is first provided of some of the most common formulations of Predictive Control, such as Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC), Predictive Functional Control (PFC), Preview Control and Generalized Predictive Control (GPC). The main features, advantages and disadvantages are discussed. A new algorithm, based on a so called Linear Quadratic

Robustness of an adaptive predictive controller
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1994Summary: In this correspondence, robustness properties of an adaptive predictive controller are presented. The algorithm is obtained via a receding horizon control strategy by minimizing a quadratic performance index under the constraint that the output matches the reference over a suitable number of terminal steps. Both the nonadaptive and an adaptive

The recent study of overt attention during complex scene viewing has emphasized explaining gaze behavior in terms of image properties and image salience independently of the viewer's intentions and understanding of the scene. In this Opinion article, I outline an alternative approach proposing that gaze control in natural scenes can be characterized as

Hierarchical model predictive control
2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2007This paper deals with the problem of designing stable hierarchical control schemes with Model Predictive Control (MPC). Specifically, at any layer of the considered structure, a robust MPC regulator is used to compute the control variables. In turn, these variables are produced by the subsystems at lower layers and must fulfill the robustness ...

Model Predictive Control Tuning by Controller Matching
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2010The effectiveness of model predictive control (MPC) in dealing with input and state constraints during transient operations is well known. However, in contrast with several linear control techniques, closed-loop frequency-domain properties such as sensitivities and robustness to small perturbations are usually not taken into account in the MPC design ...

CONTROLLING CHAOS BY PREDICTIVE CONTROL
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2005Abstract New approach to controlling chaos in discrete-time nonlinear autonomous systems is proposed. We stabilize the desired unstable periodic orbit via small control, based on the prediction of the trajectory. The knowledge of the periodic orbit is not required, just its existence.
