In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Assessing the Predictive Accuracy of the Body Roundness Index for Prediabetes in Indonesian Adults

open access: yesAmerta Nutrition
Background: Anthropometric measurements for identifying body fat could be used to screen individuals with prediabetic risk. Objectives: To evaluate and compare the diagnostic accuracy of body roundness index (BRI), conicity index (C-index), body mass ...

The distribution of a linear predictor after model selection: Unconditional finite-sample distributions and asymptotic approximations

open access: yes, 2006
We analyze the (unconditional) distribution of a linear predictor that is constructed after a data-driven model selection step in a linear regression model.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Local linear regression for functional predictor and scalar response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The aim of this work is to introduce a new nonparametric regression technique in the context of functional covariate and scalar response. We propose a local linear regression estimator and study its asymptotic behaviour.

Predictors of Atherosclerosis

open access: yesJournal of Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis, 2004
It is herein discussed what should be measured as predictors of atherosclerosis, to increase the predictive power of coronary risk evaluation in clinical practice. Plasma apolipoprotein (apo)B and apoAI have been reported to be stronger predictors of coronary artery disease (CAD) than plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol (C) and high ...

Structural diversity as a predictor of ecosystem function

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2019
Biodiversity is believed to be closely related to ecosystem functions. However, the ability of existing biodiversity measures, such as species richness and phylogenetic diversity, to predict ecosystem functions remains elusive.
