PERSONALITY PREDICTORS OF HAPPINESS
Psychological Reports, 2001The Oxford Happiness Inventory and a battery of personality measures were completed by 171 subjects. The results showed predicted positive correlations for happiness with satisfaction with life, self-esteem, and sociability and negative correlations of happiness with embarrassability, loneliness, shyness, and social anxiety.

Among strong predictors of longevity are general physical health, intellectual and cognitive functioning, and work satisfaction. Findings suggest that maintaining a meaningful social role keeps the aging person physically active and intellectually stimulated and maintains his motivation to take care of himself, all of which tend to extend his life.
