A Preemptive Priority Radio Net Queuing Model

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1975
A single-frequency radio net system having two-level preemptive priority is analyzed in the steady state. Negative exponential traffic statistics are assumed and unlimited queue length allowed. Closed-form solutions are obtained for a number of performance measures which characterize the operation from the system, and station points of view.

A semi-preemptive priority scheduling discipline: Performance analysis

European Journal of Operational Research, 2013
Abstract In this paper, we present an in-depth analytical study of a semi-preemptive priority scheduling discipline. This discipline eliminates the deficits of both the full- and non-preemptive versions. Under the non-preemptive category, in particular, higher-priority customers may have to wait even when the service of a lower-priority customer has ...

Preemptive Resume Priority Queue

Operations Research, 1961
The queue length probability generating function for a preemptive resume priority queue characterized by Poisson arrivals and general service time distributions has been obtained by using the “supplemetary vanable method”. The preempted item follows the “resume” rule so that upon re-entry the service on the nonpriority unit is started at the point ...

A mechanism for implementing preemptive priorities in DQDB subnetworks

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1994
The authors propose a mechanism for implementing priorities in an IEEE 802.6 (DQDB) subnetwork of a metropolitan area network. The mechanism allows the priorities to be preemptively multiplexed among each other, thus, always guaranteeing maximum bandwidth to the highest priority traffic whenever it is requested.

Preemptive Priority Assignment in Multichannel Systems

Operations Research, 1969
Customers of different priorities arrive at a system in accordance with a Poisson process. The customers are serviced by c service stations using a preemptive priority discipline. When the servicing times are exponentially distributed, this paper derives expressions for the expected waiting time for inception of service, as well as the lower and upper

Queuing with Nonpreemptive and Preemptive-Resume Priorities

Operations Research, 1965
This paper considers a special queue situation, one in which a single facility serves two major priority classes of customers. Within each class, there are several levels of priorities. The first class has the higher priority. On arrival, a customer of the first class immediately replaces any customer of lower priority being served.

Modeling a Multiprocessor System with Preemptive Priorities

Management Science, 1991
Consider a system with N processors and two job types with one having preemptive priority over the other. Arrivals are Poisson and service times are exponential. We present two approaches for modeling the system. The difference between the two lies in the order with which we list the numbers of jobs of each type in the system in the state definition ...

A preemptive priority queue with preemptions penalty

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2014
Preemption is one of the important features in scheduling problems. When preemption is allowed, a customer can immediately receive the service on the arrival time whenever the server is idle or the preemption is justified. While a customer receives a service, one or more preemptions may occur.

A preemptive priority model with two classes of customers

Proceedings of the ACM second symposium on Problems in the optimizations of data communications systems -, 1971
In this paper we propose a model for a service facility which caters to two types of customers. One motivation for this model is a trunk group which is used simultaneously for voice and data communication. We assume that primary customers receive preemptive priority service and leave the system without service if on arrival they find all servers busy ...
