Preferential Solvation: Dividing Surface vs Excess Numbers
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2014How do osmolytes affect the conformation and configuration of supramolecular assembly, such as ion channel opening and actin polymerization? The key to the answer lies in the excess solvation numbers of water and osmolyte molecules; these numbers are determinable solely from experimental data, as guaranteed by the phase rule, as we show through the ...

Local composition and preferential solvation
2006Abstract In this chapter, we discuss an important application of the Kirkwood–Buff integrals. We first define the local composition around any molecule in the mixture. Comparison of the local with the global composition leads to the concept of preferential solvation (PS).

Demystifying Preferential Solvation Phenomena.
The journal of physical chemistry. BIn this work we identify and derive the rigorous formal signature and unique molecular-based expression for the unambiguous assessment of the preferential solvation phenomena involving any type of dilute solute in any mixed binary-solvent system. In particular, we formulate the rigorous assessment of preferential solvation in ternary system involving a

Preferential Solvation Stabilization for Hydrophobic Polymeric Nanoparticle Fabrication
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2005Preferential solvation of polymer molecules and strong EPD-EPA (EPD, electron pair donor; EPA, electron pair acceptor) interaction between solvent and nonsolvent molecules were found to be of great significance in the fabrication of two kinds of aromatic polyimide (AP) nanoparticles.

Of paramount importance to the understanding of the behaviour of solutes in solvent media is the problem of solute-solvent interaction (solvation), or, in solvent mixtures, of solvent-sorting in the solvation sphere of the solute (preferential solvation).

Preferential solvation study: Solvation of sodium chloride in water-hydroxylamine mixtures
Chemical Physics, 1996Abstract MC simulations have been carried out to determine the solvation structure of NaCl in water/hydroxylamine mixtures of different composition. Na + prefers solvation by NH 2 OH over the whole concentration range studied, proving a stronger N-affinity of this ion compared to the O-preferring Li + .

We report the solvation structure of a lower critical solution temperature (LCST)-type thermoresponsive polymer in a solvate ionic liquid (SIL, i.e., an ionic liquid comprising solvate ions) to elucidate the predominant interaction for the dissolution of the thermoresponsive polymer in SIL at low temperatures.

Preferential Solvation/Hydration of α-Chymotrypsin in Water–Acetonitrile Mixtures
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2017The aim of our study is to monitor the preferential hydration/solvation of the protein macromolecules at low and high water content in water-organic mixtures. Our approach is based on the analysis of the absolute values of the water/organic solvent sorption.

Study on Preferential Solvation of Water by Electrochemical Method
Electroanalysis, 2019AbstractThe preferential solvation of water plays an important role in ferrocene research which is a subject of current interest. Voltammetric investigations were carried out for Au electrode in acetonitrile/water, showing preferential solvation of water.
