The Veins and Ventricular Preload

1993
A simple model of the systemic circulation is presented in which the heart pumps blood out of a venous reservoir into an arterial reservoir. The arterial and venous reservoirs, which have different compliances, are separated by the systemic vascular resistance.

Study of ball screw system preload monitoring during operation based on the motor current and screw-nut vibration

Mechanical systems and signal processing, 2019
In this paper, we propose a method to monitor the preload of an operational ball screw drive system mostly used in CNC machine tools by evaluating the natural frequency of the screw nut in the axial direction and the corresponding working table ...

The sacrotuberous ligament is preloaded in situ

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2022
The objective of this study was to evaluate the intrinsic preload of the sacrotuberous ligament. Preload measurements and anatomical experiments were performed on 20 specimens from 10 human cadavers and assessed to consider the thesis of the ligamentous tension band system as a possible load distribution.

Plunging into preload and afterload

Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing, 2001
Tools for teaching new nurses surround you in the intensive care unit. This article presents a simple exercise using readily available supplies to help nurses gain a solid understanding of preload and afterload.

Preload‐Induced Switchable Adhesion

Small, 2023
AbstractAnimals with robust attachment abilities commonly exhibit stable attachment and convenient detachment. However, achieving an efficient attachment–detachment function in bioinspired adhesives is challenging owing to the complexity and delay of actuators.

Ultrasonic motor with embedded preload mechanism

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2019
A linear/rotary ultrasonic motor, which is driven using a friction force, generally requires a preload mechanism between the slider/rotor and the stator.

Optimization and Preloaders

2002
We’ve built our site, and it’s functioning as it should. Now we need to make sure that our site is easy to access, and the number one problem with accessing content on the web is download times. At the moment, everything runs fine, and everything happens instantaneously; but the moment we upload anything to the server, the length of time taken to ...

Static Measures of Preload Assessment

Critical Care Clinics, 2010
This article focuses on static methods for determining preload, specifically pressure and volumetric indices measured at the bedside. The underlying ventricular function will determine where the patient is located on Frank-Starling ventricular function curve and the patient's response to a fluid challenge.

Recency-based TLB preloading

ACM SIGARCH Computer Architecture News, 2000
Caching and other latency tolerating techniques have been quite successful in maintaining high memory system performance for general purpose processors. However, TLB misses have become a serious bottleneck as working sets are growing beyond the capacity of TLBs. This work presents one of the first attempts
