Follow up of growth and steroids in premature adrenarche

European Journal of Pediatrics, 1995
In a follow up study of 34 patients with premature adrenarche we examined serum adrenal androgen levels and growth. The majority (28/34) showed an upward bend in the growth curve which, at the mean age of 2.3 years, preceded other signs of adrenarche on average by 3.8 years.

Premature Adrenarche and its Association with Cardiovascular Risk in Females

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2020
Early activation of the adrenal zona reticularis, leading to adrenal androgen secretion, mainly dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), is called premature adrenarche (PA). The fact that adrenal hyperandrogenism in females has been linked to a cluster of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, even in prepubertal children, warrants investigation ...

The natural history of premature adrenarche.

Journal of pediatric endocrinology & metabolism : JPEM, 2000
The growth and pubertal development of patients with premature adrenarche are reported to be normal, but the effects of this condition on pubertal growth are not well documented. In the present study the growth kinetics of a group of 38 female patients with isolated premature adrenarche followed in our institution for a period of 5.77 (SD=1.7) yr were ...

Is premature adrenarche a risk factor for atherogenesis?

Pediatrics International, 2005
Abstract  Background : The aim of this study was to evaluate serum lipids and atherosclerosis risk in children with premature adrenarche (PA) in comparison with age‐matched controls. Methods : Lipid profile, glucose, insulin, and insulin‐like growth factor binding protein‐1 (IGFBP‐1) levels were studied in

Polymorphisms of POR, SULT2A1 and HSD11B1 in children with premature adrenarche

Metabolism, 2012
Premature adrenarche (PA) refers to an earlier than normal increase in adrenocortical androgen production. The pathogenesis of PA remains largely unknown. We hypothesized that common polymorphisms at P450 oxidoreductase (POR), steroid sulfotransferase (SULT2A1), or 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (HSD11B1) genes could contribute to the ...

Premature adrenarche: еtiology and clinical significance

2021
Adrenarche is a zona reticularis maturation process accompanied by intensification of androgen production. Premature adrenarche is defined by onset of pubic and underarm hair, greasiness of skin and hair, «mature» sweaty odor against the increase of adrenal androgens level in girls aged up to 8 years and in boys aged up to 9 years.
