Premature Ovarian Failure

Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1973
Abstract. Twenty‐six patients with premature ovarian failure (last menstrual period before the age of 30 years) were evaluated clinically and endocrinologically and, in addition, ovarian biopsies were obtained in 15 out of the 26 patients. Only 1 of the patients revealed a family history of early menopause.

Premature ovarian failure

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2000
Secondary amenorrhoea with elevated gonadotrophins occurring under the age of 40 (premature ovarian failure (POF)), and at the age between 41 and 44 years (early menopause (EM)), respectively, affects 1-2% and 5% of women in the general population. Objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of familial cases of POF and EM and to assess the ...

Premature Ovarian Failure

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1981
Premature ovarian failure remains a multifactorial syndrome in which genetic, immune, and environmental factors may play a role. The possible etiology and pathophysiology of premature ovarian failure is reviewed. A scheme of the management of premature ovarian failure is illustrated. This allows a logical approach in which the final diagnosis has to be

Premature ovarian failure

Current Opinion in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1997
The past 2 years have seen progress in our understanding of the process of premature ovarian failure with identification of molecular causes and clarification of the autoimmune targets within the ovary. With the knowledge that most women with premature ovarian failure have ovarian follicles on ultrasonography, we eagerly await the next therapeutic ...

Premature ovarian failure

Maturitas, 1996
Premature ovarian failure (POF) is common, affecting approximately 1% of women. It is defined as gonadal failure before the age of 40 and patients may clinically present with either primary or secondary amenorrhoea. This review concentrates on the clinical aspects of POF, with sequential discussion on the aetiology and epidemiology, clinical ...

Genes and premature ovarian failure

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 1998
Premature ovarian failure (POF) is an heterogeneous syndrome. Among genetic causes, X monosomy as in Turner syndrome or X deletions and translocations are known to be responsible for POF. The genes involved in ovarian function, located on the X chromosome are still unknown. On the other hand, autosomal abnormalities have been identified in POF patients

Incidence of Premature Ovarian Failure

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1987
To assess the occurrence of premature ovarian failure, the age-specific incidence rates of natural menopause were determined for a cohort of 1858 women born between 1928 and 1932. These women were identified as Rochester, Minnesota residents in 1950 and were followed for date and type of menopause.

Familial Premature Ovarian Failure

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1985
Premature menopause, ovarian failure younger than 40 years of age, is relatively rare but may preclude childbearing for some women who delay attempts at fertility. We present five kindreds in which a genetic association for premature ovarian failure is strongly suggested.
