Coverage of exposed hardware after lower leg fractures with free flaps or pedicled flaps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
. – OBJECTIVE: The placement of osteosynthetic materials in the leg may be complicated by hardware exposure. Successful soft tissue reconstruction often provides a critical means for limb salvage in patients with hardware exposure in the leg.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Alveolar Ridge Preservation Using a Novel Species-Specific Collagen-Enriched Deproteinized Bovine Bone Mineral: Histological Evaluation of a Prospective Case Series

open access: yesBioengineering
In recent years, the significance of maintaining the alveolar ridge following tooth extractions has markedly increased. Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) is a commonly utilized technique and a variety of bone substitute materials and biologics are ...

Socket preservation

open access: yesPadjadjaran Journal of Dentistry, 2015
Alveolar ridge will commonly decrease in volume and change morphologically, as a result of a tooth loss. These changes are usually clinically significant and can make placement of a conventional protesa  or an implant more difficult.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of the Socket Preservation Technique Using Allogeneic and Xenogeneic Materials—A Preliminary Study

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials
Background: The socket preservation technique involves filling the bone defect created after tooth extraction with a bone substitute material. This helps to reduce bone resorption of the post-extraction alveolar ridge.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

High-barrier cellulose-based packaging material for enhanced food preservation with visual freshness monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Bioresources and Bioproducts
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the development of cellulose or nanocellulose (CNF) materials in food packaging industry due to their green and processable nature, while the inherent hydrophilicity of cellulose presents significant ...
