Use of blood pressure lowering drugs in the prevention of cardiovascular disease: meta-analysis of 147 randomised trials in the context of expectations from prospective epidemiological studies

open access: yesBritish medical journal, 2009
Objectives To determine the quantitative efficacy of different classes of blood pressure lowering drugs in preventing coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, and who should receive treatment. Design Meta-analysis. Data source Medline (1966-2007).

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Pressure-driven crystal symmetry and carrier concentration optimization for superior thermoelectric transport properties in layered AgCrSe2 [PDF]

open access: yesMatter and Radiation at Extremes
Phase engineering has proven to be an effective strategy for achieving superior thermoelectric performance, while pressure is an excellent means of expanding the phase space of a material. In this paper, the effect of pressure-induced phase transition on

Effects of crossed leg on blood pressure

open access: yes, 2004
It is known that many factors influence an individual's blood pressure measurement. However, guidelines for accurately measuring blood pressure inconsistently specify that the patient should keep feet flat on the floor. The purpose of this study was

Measurement of Blood Pressure in Humans

open access: yesHYPERTENSION, 2019
The accurate measurement of blood pressure (BP) is essential for the diagnosis and management of hypertension. This article provides an updated American Heart Association scientific statement on BP measurement in humans.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Redox reactions in subducted CaCO3–Fe–SiO2 as a potential source of superdeep diamond inclusions

open access: yesScientific Reports
CaCO3 is one of the most abundant carbonates at the Earth’s surface. It is transported into the mantle in substantial quantities via subducted slabs and participates in the deep mantle carbon cycle along with other mantle materials.

Pressure-Responsive Polymer Chemosensors for Hydrostatic-Pressure-Signal Detection: Poly‑l‑Lysine–Pyrene Conjugates

open access: yes, 2023
Stimulus-responsive polymer materials are an attractive alternative to conventional supramolecular and polymer assemblies for applications in sensing, imaging, and drug-delivery systems.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
