Acoustic controlled rotation and orientation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Acoustic energy is applied to a pair of locations spaced about a chamber, to control rotation of an object levitated in the chamber. Two acoustic transducers applying energy of a single acoustic mode, one at each location, can (one or both) serve to ...

A Novel Device for Bursting Shock-Tube Diaphragms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
The new GALCIT 17-in. low-pressure shock tube is equipped with a novel device which was designed to overcome some of the difficulties encountered in attempting to precisely select and control the bursting pressure of very thin diaphragms. This device is

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Perfil de deformação de embalagens em função da variação da pressão efetiva Package deformation profile as a function of the variation in effective pressure

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Food Technology, 2011
As embalagens metálicas são amplamente utilizadas em processos de esterilização convencional de alimentos, realizados em autoclaves. Devido ao seu material de construção e principalmente ao design do corpo e tampa contendo ondulações, estas embalagens ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Development of a Cooperative Braking System for Front-Wheel Drive Electric Vehicles

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Most electric vehicles adopt cooperative braking systems that can blend friction braking torque with regenerative braking torque to achieve higher energy efficiency while maintaining a certain braking performance and driving safety.

Master and Auxiliary Compound Control for Multi-Channel Confluent Water Supply Switching Control Based on Variable Universe Fuzzy PID

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
During the multi-channel confluent water supply process, the pressure control of the main pipe is often held back by such problems as non-linearity, hysteresis and parameter uncertainty, its own unique load dynamic changes, channel switching disturbance ...

A method for using surface tension to determine the size of holes in hardware [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
To check the size of small holes in injectors, flow control orifices, filters, and similar hardware, a surface tension technique is used. The liquid surface tension causes it to act as a membrane when pressure is applied.
