Weakening the nuclear envelope: Lamin B receptor in melanoma metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LBR‐driven nuclear fragility supports melanoma invasion. A: Melanocyte presents low LBR (Lamin B Receptor) levels, maintaining nuclear integrity and lamina‐chromatin tethering. B: During malignant progression, upregulation of LBR clusters at the INM (Inner Nuclear Membrane) during confined migration causes local lamina weakening and cholesterol ...

Harmonic Distortion of Blood Pressure Waveform as a Measure of Arterial Stiffness

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Aging and disease alter the composition and elastic properties of the aortic wall resulting in shape changes in blood pressure waveform (BPW). Here, we propose a new index, harmonic distortion (HD), to characterize BPW and its relationship with other in vitro and in vivo measures.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

A Numerical Study on the Impact of Dynamic Distortions in Total Inlet Pressure on the Stability and Performance of an Aero-Engine's Axial Fan [PDF]

open access: yesفناوری در مهندسی هوافضا
In preliminary jet engine design, uniform inlet conditions are typically assumed for the compression section, although real-world engines operate under non-uniform inflows that significantly affect the compressor and overall engine performance.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Phonon triggered rhombohedral lattice distortion in vanadium at high pressure [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
AbstractIn spite of the simple body-centered-cubic crystal structure, the elements of group V, vanadium, niobium and tantalum, show strong interactions between the electronic properties and lattice dynamics. Further, these interactions can be tuned by external parameters, such as pressure and temperature. We used inelastic x-ray scattering to probe the

Numerical study of a high-pressure turbine stage with inlet distortions [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2019
The study of inlet flow distortion (hot streaks and entropy waves) propagation through high-pressure turbine (HPT) stages is an open topic for aero-engine design, due to their multiple effects on aerodynamics, heat exchange and noise generation. The request to design compact and lightweight systems has recently led to a reduction of the combustor ...
