Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Thermal Instability with Anisotropic Thermal Conduction and Adiabatic Cosmic Rays: Implications for Cold Filaments in Galaxy Clusters

open access: yes, 2010
Observations of the cores of nearby galaxy clusters show H$\alpha$ and molecular emission line filaments. We argue that these are the result of {\em local} thermal instability in a {\em globally} stable galaxy cluster core.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The pressure field model: a challenge to the conventional Starling and Guyton model of hemodynamic management

open access: yesFrontiers in Anesthesiology
IntroductionEnsuring hemodynamic stability with adequate perfusion to vital organs is critical to the safe conduct of anesthesia. Recent advances in hemodynamic monitoring technologies allow pressure, flow, and resistance to be measured continuously ...

Negative Pressures in QED Vacuum in an External Magnetic Field

open access: yes, 2006
Our aim is to study the electron-positron vacuum pressures in presence of a strong magnetic field $B$. To that end, we obtain a general energy-momentum tensor, depending on external parameters, which in the zero temperature and zero density limit leads ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Safety distance for pressure‐resistance tests of cylindrical pressure vessels in the industrial field

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2022
The number of pressure vessel bursts (PVBs) has reduced since the 1990s due to the introduction of many rules and regulations. However, accidents frequently occur during pressure resistance tests (pneumatics) and there are scant safety guidelines for ...

Effect of Time and Frequency of Magnetic Field Application on MRF Pressure Performance

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
This research was conducted to determine the effect of the time and frequency of magnetic field application on MRF pressure performance. It was carried out by placing magnetorheological fluid (MRF) in a U-shaped, glass tube and then repeatedly applying a

Field- and pressure-induced magnetic quantum phase transitions in TlCuCl_3

open access: yes, 2003
Thallium copper chloride is a quantum spin liquid of S = 1/2 Cu^2+ dimers. Interdimer superexchange interactions give a three-dimensional magnon dispersion and a spin gap significantly smaller than the dimer coupling.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
