Vorticity of IGM Velocity Field on Large Scales

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate the vorticity of the IGM velocity field on large scales with cosmological hydrodynamic simulation of the concordance model of LCDM. We show that the vorticity field is significantly increasing with time as it can effectively be generated ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Anomalous pressure effect on the magnetic ordering in multiferroic BiMnO3

open access: yes, 2010
We report the magnetic field dependent dc magnetization and the pressure-dependent (pmax ~ 16 kbar) ac susceptibilities Xp(T) on both powder and bulk multiferroic BiMnO3 samples, synthesized in different batches under high pressure. A clear ferromagnetic

Kondo effect in CeX$_{c}$ (X$_{c}$=S, Se, Te) studied by electrical resistivity under high pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We have measured the electrical resistivity of cerium monochalcogenices, CeS, CeSe, and CeTe, under high pressures up to 8 GPa. Pressure dependences of the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature $T_{N}$, crystal field splitting, and the $\ln T$ anomaly ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Geosynchronous magnetic field responses to fast solar wind dynamic pressure enhancements: MHD field model [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2012
We performed global MHD simulations of the geosynchronous magnetic field in response to fast solar wind dynamic pressure (Pd) enhancements. Taking three Pd enhancement events in 2000 as examples, we found that the main features of the total field B ...

Velocity and Pressure Field of Spilling Breakers

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1980, 1980
The internal velocity and pressure fields of quasi-steady spilling breaking waves have been investigated experimentally. The internal flow fields are shown to be in qualitative agreement with a model proposed by Peregrine and Svendsen (1978). Furthermore a quantitative comparison is made with nonbreaking wave theories.

Bulk Properties of a Fermi Gas in a Magnetic Field

open access: yes, 2012
We calculate the number density, energy density, transverse pressure, longitudinal pressure and magnetization of an ensemble of spin one-half particles in the presence of a homogeneous background magnetic field.

A Geometric Formulation of Quantum Stress Fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present a derivation of the stress field for an interacting quantum system within the framework of local density functional theory. The formulation is geometric in nature and exploits the relationship between the strain tensor field and Riemannian ...
