Role of Low-Cost Negative Pressure Dressing in the Management of Sacral Pressure Injuries and its Impact on Functional Recovery in Neuro-rehabilitation: A Retrospective Case Series

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Case Reports
Introduction: Pressure injuries (PIs) continue to remain one of the most common and debilitating complications seen adding to the financial burden of the patients and caregivers. The available VAC (vacuum assisted closure) systems are expensive.

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Design and application of a user friendly tracheotomy catheter fixation belt to prevent pressure injuries (一种防止压力性损伤简便型气切寸带的设计与应用)

open access: yes中西医结合护理
The tracheotomy catheter fixation belt plays a crucial role in keeping patency of the airway and stability of tracheotomy tube. The belt currently used in clinical practice has several limitations such as susceptibility to contamination, inability to ...

Clinical Validation of Plasma p‐217tau in Neurological Diseases

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Plasma p‐217tau is a minimally invasive but specific biomarker for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its disease specificity remains to be clinically evaluated. We validated the reliability of the p‐217tau biomarker in 12 other neurological diseases.

Design of Deep Learning-Based Pressure Injury Stage Classification Device

open access: yesJurnal Rekayasa Elektrika
Pressure injury or pressure ulcers could occur due to continuous pressure on the bony prominence of the skin and tissue. Geriatric patients, especially those with limited mobility and several comorbidities, are more susceptible to pressure injury.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Effectiveness of skin interface pressure and temperature monitoring for pressure injury prevention in paraplegic patients: a comparative study

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
PurposeStudies indicate that the conventional practice of turning patients every 2 h has certain limitations in preventing pressure injuries among paraplegic patients. This study aimed to explore the application effect of skin interface pressure combined

Added Prognostic Value of EEG Reactivity in Comatose Patients Following Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the added prognostic value of EEG reactivity for favorable outcome compared with background analysis during and after targeted temperature management (TTM). Methods Prospective observational cohort study of comatose post–cardiac arrest patients admitted to a single academic center between 2017 and 2022, all undergoing ...
