Pretreatment and fermentation of lignocellulose from oil palm fronds as a potential source of fibre for ruminant feed: a review

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment
Oil palm fronds are plantation waste widely available in large quantities and have great potential as a source of ruminant feed due to their high fibre content. However, the lignocellulose content can inhibit feed digestion.

A Regression Discontinuity Design for Ordinal Running Variables: Evaluating Central Bank Purchases of Corporate Bonds

open access: yes, 2020
Regression discontinuity (RD) is a widely used quasi-experimental design for causal inference. In the standard RD, the assignment to treatment is determined by a continuous pretreatment variable (i.e., running variable) falling above or below a pre-fixed

Sodium hydroxide pretreatment as an effective approach to reduce the dye/holes recombination reaction in P-Type DSCs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We report the synthesis of a novel squaraine dye (VG21-C12) and investigate its behavior as p-type sensitizer for p-type Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells.

Response to Allopurinol and Febuxostat According to the Fractional Excretion of Urate in Men With Gout

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Body mass index (BMI), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and pretreatment urate levels have been reported to influence the urate‐lowering response to allopurinol. We investigated whether the fractional excretion of uric acid (FEUA) also modulates this response and relates to oxypurinol concentrations.

Preparation of Gazpacho Assisted by Pulsed Electric Fields: A Preliminary Study

open access: yesGastronomy
Pulsed Electric Fields (PEFs) are a technology increasingly used in the food industry for various purposes. However, their potential benefits as a pretreatment prior to the culinary preparation of a product have rarely been investigated.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Effects of Different Pretreatments Combined with Steam Explosion on the Properties of Bamboo Fibers

open access: yesBioResources, 2022
Bamboo pretreatment is a key technology for the preparation of bamboo fibers (BFs) for composites. This study examined the properties of BFs prepared by steam explosion (SE) BFs following pretreatment by enzyme, alkali, and salt.

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Morphological modification of Chromolaena odorata cellulosic biomass using alkaline peroxide oxidation pretreatment methodology and its enzymatic conversion to biobased products

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2018
In this study, the structural modification of Siam weed (Chromolaena odorata) was performed using NaOH–H2O2- and Ca(OH)2–H2O2-based oxidative pretreatment for the enzymatic conversion of the biomass to a biocommodity, reducing sugar (RS). Pretreatment of
