Prey selectivity of the invasive largemouth bass towards native and non-native prey: an experimental approach

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2022
Non-native predators are known to cause ecological impacts through heightened consumption of resources and decimation of native species. One such species is Micropterus salmoides.

Omnivory by planktivores stabilizes plankton dynamics, but may either promote or reduce algal biomass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Classical models of phytoplankton–zooplankton interaction show that with nutrient enrichment such systems may abruptly shift from limit cycles to stable phytoplankton domination due to zooplankton predation by planktivorous fish.

Prey-tracking behavior and prey preferences in a tree-climbing firefly

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
Prey-tracking behavior is common in snail-killing predators, but in the family Lampyridae, this behavior has been validated in only a single species even though this Coleopteran family includes many specialist snail predators. The endemic firefly Pyrocoelia atripennis is a major snail-killing predator in the Yaeyama Islands of Japan, and the larvae ...

Prey distribution and foraging preference for tits

open access: yesORNITHOLOGICAL SCIENCE, 2002
We examined the abundance and distribution of prey in four different height strata and eight tree species in a temperate forest, and analyzed the influence on foraging preference by three breeding tit (Parus) species. Densities of arthropod prey for tits in canopy foliage varied with tree species but not with height.

Prey preferences of notonectids towards larval mosquitoes across prey ontogeny and search area [PDF]

open access: yesPest Management Science, 2019
AbstractBACKGROUNDPredatory biological control agents can be effective natural means of managing pests, vectors and invasive species. However, the strength of predator–prey interactions can be regulated through context‐dependencies that often remain unquantified.

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Effects of changes in alternative prey densities on predation of drifting lake sturgeon larvae (Acipenser fulvescens)

open access: yesJournal of Freshwater Ecology, 2017
Predator–prey interactions including prey switching, predator swamping, and size-selectivity are important in maintaining multi-species systems. In fishes, early life stages are often recruitment bottlenecks due to high mortality partially caused by ...

Specialist or generalist? Feeding ecology of the Malagasy poison frog Mantella aurantiaca [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We studied the diet of a population of free-ranging Mantella aurantiaca, an alkaloid-containing poison frog from Madagascar. As in other poison frogs, this species is thought to sequester alkaloids from arthropod prey.
