Breeding Biology of Least Auklets on the Pribilof Islands, Alaska

The Condor, 1986
Aspects of Least Auklet (Aethia pusilla) breeding biology that pertain to the growth and development of chicks were studied on St. George Island, Bering Sea, Alaska, during the 1981 and 1982 breeding seasons. Yolk was 41% of fresh egg contents, a greater value than in the eggs of other alcid species.

Trapped motion around the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1999
Observations in the region of the Pribilof Islands and Canyon (PIC) reveal a clockwise circulation around the group of islands and around each of the two largest islands, St. Paul and St. George. Six current meters deployed around St. Paul Island revealed a steady clockwise flow around the island, which was strongest south of the island and weakest to ...

An examination of the physical variability around the Pribilof Islands in 2004

Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 2008
The Pribilof Islands form a unique ecosystem. An anti-cyclonic oceanic flow exists around the islands. Nutrients are introduced into this circulation from two sources: (1) the flow along the 100-m isobath with intrusions of nutrient-rich water in Pribilof Canyon, and (2) the westward transport and vertical mixing of middle-shelf water, which contains ...

History of the Steller Sea Lion at the Pribilof Islands, Alaska

Journal of Mammalogy, 1962
In 1786 the Pribilof Islands probably supported a sea lion population considerably in excess of 15,000 animals. These bred on two rookeries on St. George Island, one on St. Paul Island, and one on Walrus Island. A few may have bred also on Sea Lion Rock. The Walrus Island colony disappeared in 1827; between 1867 and 1914 both St.
