Integrating Variable Renewable Energy in Electric Power Markets: Best Practices from International Experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Many countries -- reflecting very different geographies, markets, and power systems -- are successfully managing high levels of variable renewable energy on the electric grid, including that from wind and solar energy.

The Future of Sustainable Energy Production in Pakistan: A System Dynamics-Based Approach for Estimating Hubbert Peaks

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
This paper presents an effort pertaining to the simulation of the future production in Pakistan of different primary energy resources, i.e., coal, natural gas and crude oil, thereby constructing Hubbert peaks.

Primary energy consumption for insulating [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
In this article a mathematical model for thermal protection level analysis is developed. It is based on the consumption rate of primary energy. It allows to calculate the relevant thickness of the selected insulation material under any climatic and economic conditions with any constant layers of building envelope taken from structural considerations ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Research on the Implementation of a Heat Pump in a District Heating System Operating with Gas Boiler and CHP Unit

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Given the widespread use of gas-fired boilers and combined heat and power (CHP) units in existing district heating (DH) systems, this study investigates the integration of medium-scale heat pumps (HPs) into such configurations. Fifteen DH system variants

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Renewable Energy: Past Trends and Future Growth in 2 Degrees Scenarios

open access: yes, 2016
This study explores past growth rates of renewable energy sources (1971-2012) and required future ones in 2 degrees scenarios. Results show that in spite of comparatively high growth of renewable energy in the period 2000-2012, the share of renewable ...

Simulation of macauba palm cultivation: an energy-balance and greenhouse gas emissions analysis

open access: yesCarbon Management, 2018
The expansion of the production and use of bioenergy is one of the most efficient mechanisms to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Nevertheless, the environmental impact of the production processes for many raw materials remains unexplored.
