In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Two-parameter generalization of the logarithm and exponential functions and Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon entropy

open access: yes, 2007
The $q$-sum $x \oplus_q y \equiv x+y+(1-q) xy$ ($x \oplus_1 y=x+y$) and the $q$-product $x\otimes_q y \equiv [x^{1-q} +y^{1-q}-1]^{\frac{1}{1-q}}$ ($x\otimes_1 y=x y$) emerge naturally within nonextensive statistical mechanics. We show here how they lead

On the possibility to detect the Higgs decay $H\to b\bar b$ in the associated $Z + b\bar b$ production at the LHC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the possibility to detect the scalar Higgs boson decay $H\to b\bar b$ in the associated $Z$ and $b\bar b$ production at the LHC using the $k_T$-factorization QCD approach. Our consideration is based on the off-shell (i.e.

Comaximizable Primes [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1991
Let P 1 , … , P n ( n ≥ 2 ) {P_1}, \ldots ,{P_n}\left ( {n \geq 2} \right ) be not necessarily distinct nonzero prime ideals in ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Window on Higgs Boson: Fourth Generation $b^\prime$ Decays Revisited

open access: yes, 2001
Direct and indirect searches of the Higgs boson suggest that 113 GeV $\lesssim m_H \lesssim$ 170 GeV is likely. With the LEP era over and the Tevatron Run II search via $p\bar p \to WH+X$ arduous, we revisit a case where $WH$ or $ZH +$ jets could arise ...

Disintegration of positive isometric group representations on $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Let $G$ be a Polish locally compact group acting on a Polish space $X$ with a $G$-invariant probability measure $\mu$. We factorize the integral with respect to $\mu$ in terms of the integrals with respect to the ergodic measures on $X$, and show that ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Prime Percolation

open access: yesExperimental Mathematics, 1998
This paper examines the question of whether there is an unbounded walk of bounded step size along Gaussian primes. Percolation theory predicts that for a low enough density of random Gaussian integers no walk exists, which suggests that no such walk exists along prime numbers, since they have arbitrarily small density over large enough regions.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
