Micromechanical formulation of the mobilized stress ratio under principal stress rotation in granular materials

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
In this paper the mobilized stress ratio is investigated by using the static equilibrium at the micro scale level analysis. The mobilized stress ratio is obtained in the distribution of the contact normal, E(β), and the inter-particle mobilized friction ...

Stresses in the vicinity of an un-reinforced mitre intersection: an experimental and finite element comparison [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The experimental investigation reported provides elastic stresses in the vicinity of the unreinforced intersection of a single 90° mitred bend, subjected to an in-plane bending moment. The specimen was extensively strain gauged on the outer surface.

Flow Deformation of Sands Subjected to Principal Stress Rotation

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1998
In order to investigate the undrained deformation behaviour of sand subjected to principal stress rotation, two series of tests were performed using a torsional cylinder shear apparatus. The following conclusions were obtained from the tests. Pore pressures and strains in excess of 5% were accumulated under the cyclic rotation of principal stresses ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Influence of Intermediate Principal Stress on Undrained Behavior of Intact Clay under Pure Principal Stress Rotation [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, 2013
This study presents the accumulations of the excess pore water pressure and the deformation as well as the noncoaxial behavior of intact soft clay subjected to pure principal stress rotation. Series of tests were carried out by using a dynamic hollow cylinder apparatus to highlight the influence of intermediate principal stress parameterb. It was found

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Deformation Behavior of Saturated Marine Silt under Principal Stress Rotation as Induced by Wave Loading

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
An experimental study aimed at providing insights into the cyclic deformation behavior of saturated marine silt under principal rotation, as induced by wave loading, is presented.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Understanding the $\mu$SR spectra of MnSi without magnetic polarons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Transverse-field muon-spin rotation ($\mu$SR) experiments were performed on a single crystal sample of the non-centrosymmetric system MnSi. The observed angular dependence of the muon precession frequencies matches perfectly the one of the Mn-dipolar ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.
