Optimal Probabilistic Constellation Shaping for Covert Communications

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, 2022
In this paper, we investigate the optimal probabilistic constellation shaping design for covert communication systems from a practical view. Different from conventional covert communications with equiprobable constellations modulation, we propose nonequiprobable constellations modulation schemes to further enhance the covert rate.

Constellation Shaping for WDM Systems Using 256QAM/1024QAM With Probabilistic Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2016
In this paper, probabilistic shaping is numerically and experimentally investigated for increasing the transmission reach of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical communication system employing quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). An optimized probability mass function (PMF) of the QAM symbols is first found from a modified Blahut-Arimoto ...

Two-Dimensional Constellation Shaping in Fiber-Optic Communications

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Constellation shaping has been widely used in optical communication systems. We review recent advances in two-dimensional constellation shaping technologies for fiber-optic communications. The system architectures that are discussed include probabilistic

Multi-User Visible Light Communications With Probabilistic Constellation Shaping and Precoding [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Communications
This paper proposes a joint design of probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) and precoding to enhance the sum-rate performance of multi-user visible light communications (VLC) broadcast channels subject to signal amplitude constraint. In the proposed design, the transmission probabilities of bipolar $M$-pulse amplitude modulation ($M$-PAM) symbols ...

Probabilistic Shaping Design Based on Reduced-Exponentiation Subset Indexing and Honeycomb-Structured Constellation Optimization for 5G Fronthaul Network

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
A probabilistic shaping method based on reduced-exponentiation subset indexing and honeycomb-structured constellation optimization is proposed to compress the number of signal points in the constellation, so that the total number doesn't fit the ...

Iterative Receiver Design for Probabilistic Constellation Shaping in ISI Channel

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
This paper investigates the receiver design for probabilistic constellation shaping signaling over inter-symbol interference channel. The key component performing the constellation shaping is an adjustable distribution matcher, and the probabilistic ...

Probabilistic Constellation Shaping for Enhancing Spectral Efficiency in NOMA VLC Systems [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications
The limited modulation bandwidth of the light emitting diodes (LEDs) presents a challenge in the development of practical high-data-rate visible light communication (VLC) systems.

Achievable Information Rates for Probabilistic Amplitude Shaping: An Alternative Approach via Random Sign-Coding Arguments [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
Probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) is a coded modulation strategy in which constellation shaping and channel coding are combined. PAS has attracted considerable attention in both wireless and optical communications. Achievable information rates (AIRs)

Prefix-Free Code Distribution Matching for Probabilistic Constellation Shaping [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Communications, 2020
In this work, we construct energy-efficient variable-to-fixed length (V2F), fixed-to-variable length (F2V), and variable-to-variable length (V2V) prefix-free codes, which are optimal (or near-optimal) in the sense that no (or few) other codes with the size can achieve a smaller energy per code letter for the same entropy rate.
