Technologies Toward Implementation of Probabilistic Constellation Shaping [PDF]

open access: yes2018 European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2018
Reverse concatenation of forward error correction and distribution matching significantly improves the implementation capability of probabilistic constellation shaping. However, to take full advantage of the benefits, one should carefully understand the practical aspects and trade-offs.

Supporting Probabilistic Constellation Shaping in 5G-NR Evolution

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2022

It is well-known that probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) provides a shaping-gain of 1.53dB asymptotically as signal-to-noie (SNR) increases. This is however, under ideal assumptions that the considered system operates in optimal sense and can achieve the Shannon capacity.

Hierarchical Distribution Matching for Probabilistic Amplitude Shaping

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
Probabilistic amplitude shaping—implemented through a distribution matcher (DM)—is an effective approach to enhance the performance and the flexibility of bandwidth-efficient coded modulations. Different DM structures have been proposed in the literature.

Circularly Symmetric Companding Quantization-Inspired Hybrid Constellation Shaping for APSK Modulation to Increase Power Efficiency in Gaussian-Noise-Limited Channel

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
In this paper we address hybrid probabilistic-geometric constellation shaping (HCS) of amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) constellation based on the reversed model of optimal companding quantization for circularly symmetric sources with the goal to ...

End-to-End Learning of Constellation Shaping for Optical Fiber Communication Systems

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2023
End-to-end learning based on autoencoder can realize robust constellation shaping for optical fiber communications. The existing schemes use the symbol-wise autoencoder (SAE) or bit-wise autoencoder (BAE) to realize the constellation shaping.

Joint Optimization of Geometric and Probabilistic Constellation Shaping for OFDM-ISAC Systems [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Symposium on Joint Communications & Sensing
6G communications systems are expected to integrate radar-like sensing capabilities enabling novel use cases. However, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) introduces a trade-off between communications and sensing performance because the optimal ...

Trellis-Coded Modulation-Enabled Probabilistic Shaping With Simplified Viterbi Decoder for Bandwidth-Limited IMDD Systems

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2023
In this article, trellis-coded modulation-enabled probabilistic shaping (TEPS) scheme with a simplified Viterbi decoder is proposed. Trellis-coded modulation (TCM) is embedded in the probabilistic shaping (PS) technique to improve the performance of PS ...

Supporting Probabilistic Constellation Shaping in 5G-NR

open access: yes, 2022

In this paper, we consider applying probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) to the fifth-generation new-radio (5G-NR) system. We propose a practical PCS transceiver design which is fully backward compatible to the existing 5G-NR system, and can bring significant improvements in block-error rate (BLER) and throughput.
