Gradient Exceptionality in Maximum Entropy Grammar with Lexically Specific Constraints
The number of exceptions to a phonological generalization appears to gradiently affect its productivity. Generalizations with relatively few exceptions are relatively productive, as measured in tendencies to regularization, as well as in nonce word ...

Apportioning Development Effort in a Probabilistic LR Parsing System through Evaluation [PDF]
We describe an implemented system for robust domain-independent syntactic parsing of English, using a unification-based grammar of part-of-speech and punctuation labels coupled with a probabilistic LR parser.

Probabilistic context-free grammars for phonology [PDF]
We present a phonological probabilistic context-free grammar, which describes the word and syllable structure of German words. The grammar is trained on a large corpus by a simple supervised method, and evaluated on a syllabification task achieving 96.88% word accuracy on word tokens, and 90.33% on word types. We added rules for English phonemes to the

A systematic review of second language (L2) student writers' metacognitive experiences
Abstract This systematic review synthesises empirical evidence on second language (L2) student writers' metacognitive experiences (MEs) across different classroom‐based L2 learning contexts in peer‐reviewed academic journals. A comprehensive search of six databases (Scopus, APA PsycINFO, British Education Index, ERIC subscription, Education Source and ...

An evolutionary method for learning HMM structure: prediction of protein secondary structure
Background The prediction of the secondary structure of proteins is one of the most studied problems in bioinformatics. Despite their success in many problems of biological sequence analysis, Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) have not been used much for this ...

Abstract This paper analyses differences in academic achievement associated with attendance at publicly funded private schools and public schools across 11 European countries. Using eight waves of PISA data (2000–2022), we apply OLS, IPW and IPWRA estimators to account for observed heterogeneity and mitigate selection bias.

ABSTRACT This study examines the determinants of firms' propensity to adopt green buildings in the Euro Stoxx 300 and the S&P 500 indices, during 2012–2023. Using random forest binary classifiers, we assess the relative importance of financial, sectoral, geographic, and climate governance predictors and uncover nonlinear relationships often overlooked ...

Linguistic Constraints in LFG-DOP [PDF]
LFG-DOP (Bod and Kaplan, 1998, 2003) provides an appealing answer to the question of how probabilistic methods can be incorporated into linguistic theory.

Green Hydrogen for Public Transportation: Insights From an ABM and From Palma de Mallorca Case Study
ABSTRACT The development of green hydrogen (GH2) value chains is crucial for decarbonizing sectors such as transport and industry. Their emergence, however, requires coordination among diverse actors, technologies, and regulations, which traditional analytical approaches struggle to capture.
