Attention to the Variation of Probabilistic Events: Information Processing with Message Importance Measure

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
Different probabilities of events attract different attention in many scenarios such as anomaly detection and security systems. To characterize the events’ importance from a probabilistic perspective, the message importance measure (MIM) is ...

Dynamics and Complexity of Computrons

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
We investigate chaoticity and complexity of a binary general network automata of finite size with external input which we call a computron. As a generalization of cellular automata, computrons can have non-uniform cell rules, non-regular cell ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

A Corrective to Bovens and Hartmann's Measure of Coherence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Bovens and Hartmann (2003a, 2003b) propose to analyze coherence as a confidence-boosting property. On the basis of this idea, they construct a new probabilistic theory of coherence.

The Measure-Theoretical Approach to P-Adic Probability Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
this paper we develop a p-adic probability formalism based on measure theory of [19]. By probabilistic reasons we use the special case of this measure theory: measures defined on algebras (such measures have some special properties).

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Formalism and Interpretation in Quantum Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Quantum Mechanics can be viewed as a linear dynamical theory having a familiar mathematical framework but a mysterious probabilistic interpretation, or as a probabilistic theory having a familiar interpretation but a mysterious formal framework.

Solvability of diagonal equation ax^{d}+by^{2d}=c over finite fields

open access: yes四川大学学报. 自然科学版, 2023
An important problem in finite fields is the power sum representation problem, that is, in a sufficiently large finite field, whether or not every element can be expressed as sum of powers of an element and powers of another element, where both elenents ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
