A Probabilistic Setting and Lexical Cooccurrence Model for Textual Entailment

open access: yes, 2005
This paper proposes a general probabilistic setting that formalizes a probabilistic notion of textual entailment. We further describe a particular preliminary model for lexical-level entailment, based on document cooccurrence probabilities, which ...

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Dose‐dependent hepatotoxicity of hydrogen peroxide in HepG2 cells and its modulation by CYP450 induction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NMR metabolomics revealed concentration‐dependent metabolic perturbations in HepG2 cells exposed to H2O2. Rifampicin pretreatment enhanced metabolic competence, attenuated toxin‐induced alterations and produced metabolite profiles more consistent with human liver physiology, supporting the use of CYP450‐induced HepG2 models for improved in vitro ...

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

High radiative forcing climate scenario relevance analyzed with a ten-million-member ensemble

open access: yesNature Communications
Developing future climate projections begins with choosing future emissions scenarios. While scenarios are often based on storylines, here instead we produce a probabilistic multi-million-member ensemble of radiative forcing trajectories to assess the ...

On the probabilistic min spanning tree Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
International audienceWe study a probabilistic optimization model for min spanning tree, where any vertex v i of the input-graph G(V, E) has some presence probability p i in the final instance G′ ⊂ G that will effectively be optimized.

IGF2 knockout reduces but does not abolish osteosarcoma growth in vitro and in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
To test whether endogenous IGF2 promotes osteosarcoma growth, IGF2 was knocked out in Saos2 cells via CRISPR‐Cas9. KO cells showed reduced proliferation in vitro, and knockout xenografts in mice reached only ~25% of wild‐type tumor volume. Insulin‐like growth factor 2 (IGF2) is implicated in osteosarcoma, but direct functional evidence of its role is ...

Oil Spill Trajectories and Beaching Risk in Brazil’s New Offshore Frontier

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The present study has applied a probabilistic oil spill modeling framework to assess the potential risks associated with offshore oil spills in the Foz do Amazonas sedimentary basin, a region of exceptional ecological importance and increasing ...

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...
