Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Identifying key process parameters in a sink-source interaction model for energy crops [PDF]
The ‘design’ of novel crops or the selection of new ideotypes is particularly relevant for bioenergy crops because these are often less well known with regard to their growth potential and environmental demands.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Process Parameters Optimization in Gas Blow Forming of Pin-type Metal Bipolar Plates using Taguchi and Finite Element Methods [PDF]
Metal bipolar plates are the most important parts of the fuel cells and recently these plates are used instead of graphite ones.In the present study, gas blow forming of a pin-type aluminum 5083 bipolar plate has been studied. After the simulation of the

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Interactive Manufacturing Process Parameter Control
The most critical step within the process chain is the curing of the matrix because here the different semi-finished products are transformed into a completely new compound material. In case of thermoset matrix systems all geometrical characteristics of the produced composite component are frozen as well.
