Psychophysical tests of the hypothesis of a bottom-up saliency map in primary visual cortex

open access: yes, 2007
A unique vertical bar among horizontal bars is salient and pops out perceptually. Physiological data have suggested that mechanisms in the primary visual cortex (V1) contribute to the high saliency of such a unique basic feature, but indicated little ...

Semantic Models for the Geological Mapping Process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The geologic mapping process requires the organization of data according to the general knowledge about the objects in the map, namely the geologic units, and to the objectives of a graphic representation of such objects in a map, following some established model of geotectonic evolution.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A Language for Designing Process Maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Business Process Management (BPM) is often adopted by organizations as a method to increase awareness and knowledge of their business processes. Business process modeling is used as a method to represent business processes in form of business process models. The number of organizations adopting BPM is quickly increasing. By this means, so is the number

MAPPING ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES FOR PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

open access: yesProceedings of the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA), 2011
Integrating human factors considerations into the design of production systems can improve productivity and quality results while reducing injury risks to system operators. The researchers are currently conducting an action research study with a Canadian electronics manufacturer to improve their production system design process (PSDP), and thereby ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Enhancement of Map Function Image Processing System using DHRF Algorithm on Big Data in the Private Cloud Tool

open access: yes, 2014
Cloud computing is the concept of distributing a work and also processing the same work over the internet. Cloud computing is called as service on demand. It is always available on the internet in Pay and Use mode.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
