Myoendothelial junctions in blood vessels of a teleost (Prochilodus scrofa) pancreas and caeca
Protoplasma, 1985Close contacts between endothelial and smooth muscle cells in teleost (Prochilodus scrofa) blood vessels are described for the first time in the present study. More frequently are seen finger-like, club-shaped or foot-like endothelial processes that come into close contact with the plasma membrane of a smooth muscle cell.

Interaction of non-ionic surfactants with hepatic CYP in Prochilodus scrofa
Toxicology in Vitro, 2004Cytochromes P450 (CYP) constitute a superfamily of hemeproteins that play a vital role in the metabolism of a wide variety of endogenous and xenobiotic compounds. Xenobiotic metabolism and the role of CYP are of particular interest in studies regarding the prevention of the damage caused by chemical pollutants.

Cryogenic preservation of spermatozoa from Prochilodus scrofa and Salminus maxillosus
Aquaculture, 1984Abstract This paper reports an initial trial to cryopreserve semen from two freshwater South American fishes, the curimbata ( Prochilodus scrofa ) and the dourado ( Salminus maxillosus ). Motility and duration of motility were observed in curimbata and dourado fresh sperm.

Abstract The intestinal epithelium of Prochilodus scrofa, a freshwater teleost fish, was studied by means of light microscopic techniques. The samples were obtained from the initial, middle and terminal portions of each intestinal loop. The pyloric caeca are lined by a simple columnar epithelium with a small striated border and a very thick basal ...

Measurements of in vivo and in vitro macrophage phagocytosis, using vital fluorescent dyes, were determined for Prochilodus scrofa in order to evaluate the effect of different stimuli on the health condition of this tropical fish. The Phagocytic Capacity (PC), Phagocytic Index (PI) and Germicide Capacity (GC) using Saccharomyces cerevisiae were ...

Microscopia óptica e eletrônica do corpúsculo de Stannius do curimbatá (Prochilodus scrofa Steindachner, 1881) (Osteichthyes, Cypriniformes, Prochilodontidae) [PDF]
The Stannius corpuscles of Prochilodus scrofa are studied microscopically (both optically and electronically) as well as macroscopically. Two CS, and sometimes 3 or 4, are found per animal.

Hepatic metallothionein in a teleost (Prochilodus scrofa) exposed to copper at pH 4.5 and pH 8.0
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2004Copper accumulation and induction of metallothionein (MT) were investigated in the liver of juvenile Prochilodus scrofa exposed to copper (96 h-LC50) at pH 4.5 (LC50=98+/-0.8 microg Cu l(-1)) and pH 8.0 (LC50=16+/-0.5 microg Cu l(-1)) at 20 degrees C. No significant difference was found in copper accumulated in the liver at either pH. The ratio between
