The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Differential gene expression in tomato fruit and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides during colonization of the RNAi–SlPH tomato line with reduced fruit acidity and higher pH

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
Background The destructive phytopathogen Colletotrichum gloeosporioides causes anthracnose disease in fruit. During host colonization, it secretes ammonia, which modulates environmental pH and regulates gene expression, contributing to pathogenicity ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Listeria monocytogenes serotype 4b strains demonstrate a fitness advantage over strains of serotypes 1/2a and 4b-v1 on cantaloupe rind and flesh at different temperatures

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne pathogen implicated in several produce-related outbreaks. In nature, it is saprophytic and is isolated from agricultural areas and surface waters.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A Tequintavirus bacteriophage SIA3lw isolated from sewage water with antimicrobial potential against antibiotic-resistant Salmonella Infantis

open access: yesBMC Microbiology
Background Salmonella enterica serovar Infantis has consistently contributed to foodborne illness in recent years. Due to frequent antibiotic resistance challenges amid Salmonella species, promising antimicrobial alternatives, such as lytic ...

Prevention of chilling injury in sweet bell pepper stored at 1.5ºC by heat treatments and individual shrink packaging

open access: yesFolia Horticulturae, 2009
The goal of this three-year study was to develop a quarantine-like treatment for two commercial sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivars, based on physical treatments and packaging materials, and to understand, in part, the chilling resistance-mode-of-

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Characterization of two novel Salmonella phages having biocontrol potential against Salmonella spp. in gastrointestinal conditions

open access: yesScientific Reports
Salmonella is a primary enteric pathogen related to the contamination of poultry and other food products in numerous foodborne outbreaks. The continuous emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria has become a serious issue due to the overuse of ...
