Gas exchange abnormalities produced by venous gas emboli

Respiration Physiology, 1979
Bubbles of either He, N2 or SF6 were infused intravenously into anesthetized dogs at a rate of 0.2 ml/kg/min. Alterations in pulmonary gas exchange were quantitated by the invert gas elimination method during control, steady state infusion and resolution phases. The hypoxemia produced was predominantly due to regions of low VA/Q rather than pure shunt,

Immunology of Archaebacteria That Produce Methane Gas

Science, 1981
The antigenic map of 17 methanogenic bacteria representing the entire range of available species was determined by multiple assay with antibody probes. Four major clusters of antigenically related strains coincide with the families proposed on the basis of 16 S ribosomal RNA analysis. Immunological mapping uncovered

Gas-producing clostridial and nonclostridial infections

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1979
Clostridial infections have always been treated promptly and aggressively on the basis of history and Gram's strain. We believe that nonclostridial infections with similar fulminating, septic courses also should receive as prompt and radical treatment and perhaps more so, as hyperbaric oxygen therapy is of far less benefit in a nonclostridial infection.
