Specification and estimation of nonstandard profit functions [PDF]

open access: yesEmpirical Economics, 2006
This paper critically examines appropriateness of the nonstandard profit function (NSPF) as a tool for measuring profit efficiency. We show that there are some fundamental problems with the NSPF approach, the way it is currently specified and estimated. This is true irrespective of whether technical inefficiency is included or not.

On Some Reflections of Profit and Loss Functions

open access: yesAl-Salam Journal for Engineering and Technology, 2023
This article is about the symmetrical reflections of profit and loss functions and the functions obtained from them, which are widely used in economic, economic and financial applications of mathematics. It is seen that the applications in the literature are calculated according to the profit and loss accounts alone.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

A profit-cost ratio maximization approach for a manufacturing inventory model having stock-dependent production rate and stock and price-dependent demand rate

open access: yesResults in Control and Optimization
This paper discusses an optimal managerial approach regarding stock control in a manufacturing-inventory scenario. The selling price and inventory level in showrooms may impact customers’ demand. The fall in selling price creates additional demand, while

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Output regulation of multiproduct firms : an application of the quadratic profit function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The paper employs the symmetric normalised quadratic (SNQ) profit function presented by Kohli (1993) to estimate for interaction effects between restricted and unrestricted outputs in firm production.

Strategic Wholesale Pricing for an Incumbent Supplier Facing with a Competitive Counterpart

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
We introduce a wholesale pricing strategy for an incumbent supplier facing with a competitive counterpart. We propose a profit function which considers both the present loss and future loss from a wholesale price and then study the optimal wholesale ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Heuristics for retail shelf space allocation problem with linear profit function

open access: yes, 2011
PurposeShelf space is often retailer's critical resource. Growing number of products has posed a challenge to the retailers for efficient allocation of available shelf space to them. The paper aims to consider a retail shelf space allocation problem with

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
