Progesterone and neurology

open access: yesGynecological Endocrinology, 1999
Neurological diseases are frequently observed in perimenopausal women and can be characterized by their gender-specific occurrence. These observations raise the question whether sex steroids are also involved in neurological diseases. Epidemiological data have shown that in Austria in 1993, the prescription rate of psychotropics, hypnotics, and ...

Vaginal progesterone decreases preterm birth and neonatal morbidity and mortality in women with a twin gestation and a short cervix: an updated meta‐analysis of individual patient data

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2017
To assess the efficacy of vaginal progesterone for the prevention of preterm birth and neonatal morbidity and mortality in asymptomatic women with a twin gestation and a sonographic short cervix (cervical length ≤ 25 mm) in the mid‐trimester.

The effect of weight and body mass index on serum progesterone values and live birth rate in cryopreserved in vitro fertilization cycles

open access: yesF&S Reports, 2021
Objective: To determine if weight or body mass index (BMI) affects the serum progesterone level at the time of the pregnancy test in cryopreserved blastocyst transfer cycles and to determine if those serum progesterone levels affect live births.

Long‐term prognosis is associated with residual disease after neoadjuvant systemic therapy but not with initial nodal status

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This long‐term follow‐up study determined survival rates in a Swedish national cohort of 417 patients with breast cancer who all had neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAST). Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) was performed before NAST in clinically node‐negative and after NAST in clinically node‐positive patients.

Influence of sex steroids on the viability and CD11b, CD18 and CD47 expression of blood neutrophils from dairy cows in the last month of gestation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In the period around parturition, cows experience an increased susceptibility for the development of Escherichia coli mastitis. This increased susceptibility has been correlated with a decreased functionality of neutrophils.

Regulation by Progestins, Corticosteroids and RU486 of Activation of Elephant Shark and Human Progesterone Receptors: An Evolutionary Perspec [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We investigated progestin and corticosteroid activation of the progesterone receptor (PR) from elephant shark (Callorhinchus milii), a cartilaginous fish belonging to the oldest group of jawed vertebrates. Comparison with human PR experiments provides insights into the evolution of steroid activation of human PR.
