Progressive image coding using trellis coded quantization

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1999
In this work, we present coding techniques that enable progressive transmission when trellis coded quantization (TCQ) is applied to wavelet coefficients. A method for approximately inverting TCQ in the absence of least significant bits is developed. Results are presented using different rate allocation strategies and different entropy coders.

Progressive coding of color-quantized images

Systems and Computers in Japan, 1993
AbstractProgressive coding of color‐quantized images, a technique that allows a progressive increase in the number of image colors transmitted, is described. In most color‐quantized image coding techniques, the representative colors are assigned indices that bear no logical relationship to them.

Progressive coding of information with progressively coded side information

International Symposium onInformation Theory, 2004. ISIT 2004. Proceedings., 2004
A generalized progressive coding problem is introduced. Two correlated sources X and Y are coded in two stages. The first stage is the same as "sequential coding of correlated sources" in literature. At the second stage, Y2 encoder refines the information of Y, and X2 encoder, obtaining the output of both Y encoders, refines X.

Deterministic prediction in progressive coding

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1993
Deterministic prediction in progressive coding of images is investigated. Progressive coding first creates a sequence of resolution layers by beginning with an original image and reducing its resolution several times by factors of some natural number M.

Progressive texture video coding

2001 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing. Proceedings (Cat. No.01CH37221), 2002
We present a novel video coding approach which provides the functionality of fine granular bitstream scalability. The proposed progressive texture video coding (PTVC) scheme consists of two parts: the current ITU-T H.26L test model for coding macroblock mode and motion information only; a new technique for progressively coding all intra and inter ...

Progressive spill code placement

Proceedings of the 2009 international conference on Compilers, architecture, and synthesis for embedded systems, 2009
Register allocation has gained renewed attention in the recent past. Several authors propose a separation of the problem into decoupled sub-tasks including spilling, allocation, assignment, and coalescing. This approach is largely motivated by recent advances in SSA-based register allocation that suggest that a decomposition does not significantly ...
