Mechanical ventilation induces brainstem inflammation in preterm fetal sheep
BackgroundPreterm infants have immature respiratory drive and often require prolonged periods of mechanical ventilation. Prolonged mechanical ventilation induces systemic inflammation resulting in ventilation-induced brain injury, however its effect on ...

Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Prolonged propofol infusion for mechanically ventilated children [PDF]
Summary We retrospectively analysed 30‐day mortality and duration of intubation for 8016 children ventilated for three or more days, sedated with midazolam (n = 7716) or propofol (n = 300). We matched the propensity scores of 263 pairs of children.

We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Early presentation of postintubation tracheoesophageal fistula: Perioperative anesthetic management
Tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) in adults occurs as a result of trauma, malignancy, cuff-induced tracheal necrosis from prolonged mechanical ventilation, traumatic endotracheal intubation, foreign body ingestion, prolonged presence of rigid nasogastric ...

Prolonged mechanical ventilation as a consequence of acute illness [PDF]
To determine why acutely ill children become dependent upon mechanical ventilation and what happens to them.A retrospective medical record study of all patients aged between 1 month and 16 years from 1983 to 1996 who required ventilation for more than 28 days.Forty children were ventilated for between 36 and 180 days before discharge or death.
